1997 International Golden Dawn Conference
Ten years ago, in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Hermetic
Order of the Golden Dawn, a four day international commemorative event was
hosted by Cris Monnastre in Los Angeles, California. Ten years later, on
Saturday June 7, 1997, at 7:30 PM, Los Angeles again welcomed an International
Golden Dawn Conference.
The conference was hosted by Temple Nº 40 of the Hermetic Order
of the Golden Dawn. As was the case ten years ago, the conference was closed
to the general public. In attendance were Adepts and Initiates from around
the world of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the Ordo Rosae Rubeae
et Aureae Crucis (R. R. et A. C.), the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega,
and the August Order of the Mystic Rose.
The conference was called to order and the Temple impressively opened
in full form in the 0=0 Grade of Neophyte, by instruction of the Very Honored
Hieophantria of Temple Nº 40, Soror S. I. A. A.
First to address the assembly was Greatly Honored Imperator A. A. A.
A., visiting from Temple Nº 30, representing the Hermetic Order of
the Golden Dawn, Northern European Jurisdiction. G. H. Frater A. A. A. A.
spoke on Rosicrucian Magic as a spiritual discipline, in an address entitled
"Road Maps of the Spiritual Dimensions."
The second speaker was Greatly Honored Imperator L. A., visiting from
the Ahathöor Temple, Nº 7 in Paris (Mother Temple of the Rosicrucian
Order of Alpha et Omega) representing the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn,
Southern European Jurisdiction. G. H. Frater L. A. spoke on the alchemical
symbolism of the Neophyte Grade in an address entitled "The Alchemy
of the Golden Dawn."
Next to address the assembly was Greatly Honored Praemonstratrix M. d.
A., representing the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Southern Jurisdiction,
USA. G. H. Soror M. d. A. shared her personal recollections of having attended
the Golden Dawn Centennial ten years ago, as well as of her long magical
relationship with Israel Regardie in an address entitled "Israel Regardie:
the Man, the Magician, and the Myth."
The fourth speaker was G. H. Frater I. O. P., who spoke on the circumstances
surrounding the consecration of the Los Angeles Temple of the Rosicrucian
Order of Alpha et Omega in 1920 in an address entitled "The History
of the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega in the USA."
The final speaker was Honored Frater I. L. L. M. from Temple Nº
40 of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (H. Frater I. L. L. M. is additionally
a Past Master of a Regular Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons). H. Frater
I. L. L. M. spoke on the history of Freemasonry in an address entitled "The
Freemasonic Roots of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn." H. Frater
I. L. L. M. as well extended a special greeting to those visiting Initiates
and Adepts from around the world who are also Free and Accepted Masons.
After a short break, at the instruction of V. H. Hierophantria S. I.
A. A., the Temple was closed in full form with the Mystic Repast, and the
conference adjourned. All present agreed that this had been the best and
most informative International Golden Dawn Conference ever.
